Using rapid prototyping, we developed a functional pill dispenser that dispensed metered amounts of liquid medication and pills for elderly people.
We controlled the dispenser via a programmable logic device that accepted user-input (e.g.: the amount of medication to dispense, frequency of dispensation), and was built in part using AutoCAD and a Stereo Lithographic Apparatus (SLA).
Our comprehensive design included a pager to remind users to take their medication, and a method for contacting a caretaker if medication wasn't taken within a certain timeframe.
Technology A Stereo Lithographic Apparatus uses a laser to cure a thin layer of liquid resin, slowly building a 3D model layer by layer.
